Red Carpet Looks

Are you ready for Red Carpet Season? Recently seen on the Golden Globes red carpet, there’s already a return to glamour – and we’re seeing it range from a very polished glamour to a more of an undone glamour. Kevin Lee, Style Director, shares his favorite look so far, Emma Stone, and how to recreate her “undo” hairstyle, and Marris Ambrose, Color Director, shares how to achieve a beautiful moonlit color like Mandy Moore!

How-To: The “UnDo”

“Emma Stone was the epitome of beauty and class on the red carpet; had she paired her gorgeous Valentino couture gown with a traditional updo, the look would have felt stale and recycled. Instead, the “undo” style that she wore pulled the look together with a modern twist” says Kevin Lee. It’s so easy to recreate this look too, with only 5 quick steps:

Step 1: Use a curling to curl the hair around the frame of the face in four sections. Ideally, you will want to use a larger curling iron with a 1.5 inch rod.

Step 2: Rake the hair with your fingers and pull it back to your nape. Loop a hair tie around the hair loosely and gently pull it towards the end of the hair.

Step 3: Roll the low ponytail up towards the crown of the head. Try not to roll too loosely, or too tightly – you want to maintain the shape throughout. A good technique would be to measure using two fingers inside the roll.

Step 4: Use bobby pins to secure, pinning inside the roll to the hair.

Step 5: Gently pull a piece of hair out for a wispy side bang, and voila! The “Undo”!

How-To: Smoky, Moonlit Brunette

Hollywood is traditionally all about the blondes, but the Golden Globes red carpet brought out some beautiful, smoky, moonlit brunettes this season and we loved seeing these rich, dynamic colors! Color Director, Marris Ambrose states “It’s a departure from overly highlighted brunettes; less warmth and a return to smoky, cooler brunette shades. This color speaks to classic, Hollywood glamour. Pretty, feminine and an elegance that has a 70’s vibe.”

Mandy Moore

Mandy Moore was our favorite on the red carpet to rock the look, with her modern Naeem Khan gown. Marris advises, “To achieve this look you’ll want to ask your colorist to first highlight the hair carefully placing highlights to complement existing haircut. Do not over lighten the hair, finish with a gloss that’s in a cool, smoky tone.”
